Facebook and CNN launched a new tool early this week to track election buzz on the social media site leading up to November’s presidential election. The tool visualizes real-time data pulled from Facebook’s Page Insights, “People Talking About This” feature as well as mentions on Facebook and then displays maps and charts to show how much buzz candidates are creating per day. CNN plans to use the information during broadcast shows leading up to the election.  Visitors to the site can sort the information by state, gender, age and time period to see how many people are talking about President Obama, Vice President Biden and the Republican presidential candidate Romney and vice presidential Ryan. Recently, Facebook and CNN also partnered to launch an app, “I’m Voting.” The application lets users share opinions about the candidates and their campaigns. These partnerships between social media and mass media are revolutionizing how people are consuming their news and finding information about current events.
