The augmented reality game, named GOL!, will allow players will be able to perfect trick shots by bouncing the ball off real-time 3D models of their favorite McDonald’s food items. Players will be able to share their best shots with friends around the world. The app will use the phone camera to recognize the back of the limited edition fry boxes to create a virtual game space where players can kick a soccer ball by flicking their fingers. With it’s first global, digital promotion, McDonald’s is showing the universal reach of two different things – gaming and sports. By bringing them together in an engaging and shareable promotion, McDonald’s is expanding its reach with a shared promotion that sports fans and gamers will both enjoy.
