Relief organization Misereor created a simpler way to fight poverty and injustice with “The Social Swipe” billboard. The European installation took the old-fashioned donation box and transformed it into an interactive, digital activation. By simply swiping a credit card down the middle of the billboard, a $2 donation was made to the cause. To represent the effect of the donation, an animation of bread cutting or rope freeing enslaved hands occurred as people swiped their cards. A complex verification system allowed Misereor to collect people’s information and follow-up with them. The organization contacted the donors with their receipt and also asked them to turn their single contribution into a monthly one. This gave the one time activation a lasting impression by incorporating a long-term donation strategy. To find out more about the organization and the promotion, check out this video.
