Peter Gabriel has developed a Facebook strategy that allows fans of his page to record and upload recreations of scenes from the stop-motion music video of his classic 80’s hit, “Sledgehammer.” This promotion, dubbed the “Grab Your Sledgehammer” contest, will be accessed by contestants using an interactive Facebook tab. The main goal of this strategy is to promote the 25th anniversary of Gabriel’s So album, which was recently re-released in three different versions. After the video submission window is closed, the best video will be voted on and that person will win a TDKperformance Wireless Boombox as well as autographed artwork. Given that the Sledgehammer music video was huge in the 80’s and is getting exceedingly popular on YouTube, the hopes for the results of this strategy are that this social promo will get not only Gabriel’s fans more involved and engaged with his Facebook page, but the fans of funny 80’s videos and parodies as well.
