To help build buzz for the series return of its addictive, love-gone-wrong-online show ‘Catfish’ (airing September 2nd), MTV UK has launched an online prank campaign that tricks viewers into thinking they’re live-chatting with people from the show. The clever interactive hoax aims to highlight what many participants on the TV show have already learned: you can’t believe everything you see online. Shot in one continuous take, the pre-recorded promotion video swaps actors multiple times, eliminates objects in the background and changes the website color but, according to MTV, 75% of viewers tested had no idea—proving, much like the TV show, that deception is only a click away. For more on this interactive promotion, click here.
